A Tale of Two Beaches

Yesterday I posted about Siesta Beach on Siesta Key, Florida. It's been named the #1 beach in the U.S.

Today we went to Boca Grande on the island of Gasparilla. White sand, not as soft and powdery as Siesta, but that's because there are lots of sea shells crushed up into the sand. Boca is much less crowded than Siesta because the beach goes all around the island and there are lots of places to access the beach. It never gets crowded in any one spot.

We got there early and watched dolphins playing - what a sight. And I collected lots of sea shells, which for some reason, always makes me feel happy. Gifts from the sea.

So here is Siesta Beach again:

And here's Boca Grande:

We like Boca better - just us and our seagull :) No beaches tomorrow - I have to teach my yoga classes. That's okay - I need to get out of the sun!!

The Dreamcatchers are Still Catching Dreams

Just because we gave up our Dreamcatcher RV, that doesn't mean we've stopped catching dreams or looking for new adventures and experiences. Here in SW Florida, there is plenty to discover right in our own back yard, and we haven't even scratched the surface.

We're not really on vacation, but since last Friday we've been acting like it. We started with lunch out at a favorite local place called Deena's Delectables on Friday....

This is Deena:

And here I am eating one of her delectables:

On Saturday, we drove down to an art festival in Estero.....

Sunday we went to the movies to see the Monuments Men. I had high hopes for it but it wasn't very well done, despite all those good actors ....

Today, Monday, we drove an hour north to Siesta Key. Siesta Beach has been named the #1 beach in the U.S., so of course we wanted to check it out. It's a great beach:

I am happiest on a beach ... can you tell?

There were a bunch of Amish people at the beach today - the kids wore bathing suits but the grown-ups were fully dressed - women in ankle length dresses and men in pants with suspenders. Didn't stop them from going in the water though:

We thought Siesta Key was a great beach but it's not #1 in our book. Our #1 U.S. beach (not that we've seen all the beaches, mind you) is unquestionably Fort Pickens in Pensacola, Florida:

On the way home we stopped at Culver's for frozen custard:

Tomorrow is supposed to be another beautiful day so we are going to Boca Grande, another beautiful beach not far from here. Then it will be back to work on Wednesday ....
